The George Mason University, Potomac Science Center is a destination for environmental science research along the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Located along Belmont Bay near the mouth of the Occoquan River, the 50,000-square-foot three-story research facility houses laboratories for teaching and research, lecture rooms, event space, and a library/resource center with a stand-alone parking structure and outdoor trails. The facility meets LEED Silver certification standards.
GROUPE was responsible for the land planning, design and engineering of all infrastructure, road, water, sanitary sewer, dry utilities, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, boundary and topographic surveys and record plats. The project required extensive coordination with George Mason University and the private sector developer who provided the utility and transportation access. In addition, GROUPE assisted during the construction phase with periodic site inspections, schedule coordination, and shop drawing reviews.
